Rental Inspection Committee
For years, Sedalia citizens have voiced concerns over the decline in local housing stock. To address these concerns, the Citizens for a Clean Sedalia ad-hoc committee was established in 2012. Realizing area improvements would require a considerable amount of time and effort, the Clean Sedalia Committee was designated as Part 1 of Sedalia improvement efforts. The Clean Sedalia Committee was tasked with several goals; promote public awareness by holding neighborhood clean-up events and research and recommend to City Council any new policies and policy updates to assist in area improvements.
Rental inspections were discussed by the Clean Sedalia Committee but the committee decided that this subject should be addressed by a different ad-hoc committee as Part 2 of the community improvement plan. Thus members of the Rental Inspection Committee were recommended by Mayor Stephen Galliher and approved by the City Council on August 15, 2016.
The primary goal of the Rental Inspection Committee is to research the need for rental inspections in order to improve the health and safety of rental residential housing and to prepare a proposed rental inspection ordinance for Council approval.
