The Sedalia Community Center opened in 1974 in a former school building and began its role of assisting the community by housing a Missouri Valley Human Resources Head Start Program, the Boys' & Girls' Club and the Senior Center as tenant agencies. Head Start, the Boys' & Girls' Club and Senior Center all remain at the heart of the Community Center's operation today.
The Head Start program occupies the entire basement and four classrooms on the first floor of the Sedalia Community Center. The basement includes office space, counseling facilities, a full-service kitchen and cafeteria space.
The Boys & Girls Club utilizes the second floor of the facility.
The gymnasium is available for use by other tenants and can be rented to community organizations through the Community Center office. The facility offers basketball, volleyball, indoor tennis, a portable dance floor and can be used as a large meeting room.
