Operations Support Bureau
The Operations Support Bureau is charged with aiding and enhancing the effectiveness of the Sedalia Police Department through resource management and the effective use of personnel. The Operations Support Bureau Commander directs the Bureau and reports directly to the Chief of Police.
The Bureau operates in four key focus areas - Telecommunications, Support Operations and Training / Re-certification.
Communications consists of one supervisor, eight full-time Telecommunications Officers who are certified with the M.U.L.E.S. network and operate the Department's computer aided dispatch as well as and 9-1-1 operations. An Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certified instructor trains all communications personnel in dispatch operations. Communications personnel are primarily responsible for answering and dispatching the more than 35,000 calls for service received by the SPD every year. Community Service Officers (CSOs) also assists communications personnel in the receiving and dispatching calls for service.
The Support Unit consists of various other units such as Crossing Guards, Reserve Officers and Community Service Officers. These units allow the Department to utilize its personnel in the most effective manner to ensure the safety of the citizens of Sedalia.
The Training Unit ensures that all sworn members are certified through Missouri Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) and current on all continuing training units (CEUs). The Training Unit conducts a minimum of 2 training sessions a year certifying Sedalia officers and officers from other agencies at no cost.
