City of Sedalia Reaches Settlement Agreement
(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : In accordance with section 610.021 (1) RSMo, the Mayor and City Council met in closed session on Monday, March 3, 2008 to review a settlement agreement regarding litigation by the property owners at 612 and 614 S. Ohio Avenue. The City Council unanimously authorized this settlement. Last night, the City Council authorized receiving the executed deeds transferring the property to the City and fulfilling the terms of the settlement agreement.
Legal action was initiated by the property owners after an April 9, 2005 collapse of a portion of the building located at 612 S. Ohio Avenue. This buildings' collapse led to its subsequent demolition and resultant damage to the adjoining building at 614 S. Ohio Avenue. The building owners filed Action for damages allegedly incurred as a result of this event.
As part of the settlement agreement, the City of Sedalia has received free and clear title to the property located at 612 and 614 S. Ohio Avenue. The City will be accepting proposals to reutilize this property in accordance with the efforts of the Art Initiative focusing on the downtown. The property has been viewed by an artist anticipating relocation to Sedalia. Persons wishing to submit a proposal for the redevelopment of this property may submit their information to the City. Proposals will be accepted until such time as the City determines it has received the highest and best proposal.
