The City of Sedalia has activated the EMERGENCY SNOW ROUTES beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 as the National Weather Service has reported the potential for steadily falling temperatures with rain beginning late Friday afternoon, changing over to snow with accumulations from 1-3 inches overnight. Please click here to view the January 18, 2019 public service announcement issued by the City of Sedalia.

Drivers who routinely park on streets designated as Emergency Snow Routes will need to move their vehicles to other locations as snow is expected to accumulate during nighttime hours. City crews will be working overnight Friday to ensure Emergency Snow Routes remain open. Cars remaining parked on emergency snow routes may be towed or plowed in as crews work to keep these roadways open for emergency vehicles.

Fire Department to Flush Hydrants and Water Mains

(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : The City of Sedalia would like to announce the beginning of a fire hydrant and water main flushing program.  Members of the Sedalia Fire Department and the Water Department will be flushing hydrants and mains beginning the week of October 13, 2008.

Crews will be starting the flushing program in the northeast section of Sedalia and will be working south to the Union Pacific railroad tracks then moving to the west staying north of the railroad tracks.  The Fire Department will make information available daily of where crews will be flushing.  Information will be accessible through the City’s web site or by calling the Fire Department Headquarters at (660) 826-8044.

Flushing will usually be conducted between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. Monday through Thursday.  Some areas of town will require flushing to be conducted in the evening hours and on Sundays.

People should be aware that when flushing is taking place in their neighborhood the possibility of discolored water is present.  It is recommended that if any discoloration is detected, residents should flush their water lines by flowing cold water through the bath tub faucet and let water run for a sufficient amount of time until water is clear.  It is common to experience some discoloration in the water when flushing of mains. Residents are encouraged to delay doing laundry until the discoloration has cleared.

Your water will be safe to drink and cook with.

Anyone with concerns about the safety of drinking water can request a test of the water by calling the Water Treatment plant at 826-1236.

This program is important to ensuring the safety of our citizens.

The city apologizes for any inconvenience to our citizens that may be caused as a result of this program.  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact the Fire Department at 826-8044.
