The City of Sedalia has activated the EMERGENCY SNOW ROUTES beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 as the National Weather Service has reported the potential for steadily falling temperatures with rain beginning late Friday afternoon, changing over to snow with accumulations from 1-3 inches overnight. Please click here to view the January 18, 2019 public service announcement issued by the City of Sedalia.

Drivers who routinely park on streets designated as Emergency Snow Routes will need to move their vehicles to other locations as snow is expected to accumulate during nighttime hours. City crews will be working overnight Friday to ensure Emergency Snow Routes remain open. Cars remaining parked on emergency snow routes may be towed or plowed in as crews work to keep these roadways open for emergency vehicles.

A map detailing Snow Emergency Routes may be viewed here.

Downtown to welcome Landmark Building

Sedalia's historic downtown district is home to the Trust Building and the Commerce Building.  But in the spring of 2008, a new neighbor will rise downtown as construction is slated to begin on the Furnell Landmark Building at the corner of Ohio Avenue and 5th Street.

The three-story Landmark Building plans to feature a mix of retail, office and assisted-living residential space in the heart of downtown.  The facade of the Fox Theater, part of downtown for more than fifty years, will be maintained and restored as the Landmark Building takes its place across from the County Courthouse.

Mayor Bob Wasson, in his introductory remarks at a November 1 press conference, reminded Sedalians that a vibrant downtown district is key to a strong, healthy Sedalia.  The Furnell Landmark Building will compliment improvements to the Courthouse square and Ohio Avenue streetscape that are planned as a part of Sedalia's DREAM Initiative.

The Furnell Companies have been a part of the Sedalia community since 1950, offering their clients rental homes and apartments along with retail, office and warehouse space.  Construction on the Landmark Building is scheduled to begin mid-January and is expected to be complete by the end of 2008.
