Airport Runway Construction Begins
On July 7, 2014, Ideker Construction Company began preparations to grind up the Sedalia Regional Airport's 5,500 foot runway. The gravel from the old runway will then be used for the base of the new runway. The pavement strength will go from 48,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds for a tandem wheel aircraft.
This project will take from three to five months. The construction cost is $3.2 million with 95% being paid by the FAA and MoDOT Aviation. While the 5,500 foot runway is closed for construction, the airport will still be open for business with its 3,520 foot cross-wind runway.
