3/18/2015 - Use Tax on August Ballot
Use Tax on August Ballot
The Sedalia City Council has voted to put the Use Tax on the August 4th ballot. The main purpose of the local use tax is to create a level playing field for local retail businesses that must collect city sales taxes. It is collected in place of the local sales tax on transactions that individuals and businesses conduct with out-of-state vendors. Currently, local retailers are at a disadvantage with out-of-state vendors who do not have to collect local sales taxes. The Use Tax will address this loophole. The tax is collected only if the business or individual purchases more than $2,000 during a calendar year.
