Animal Shelter

Sedalia Animal Shelter is dedicated to caring for homeless pets in our community through adoptions, cruelty investigations, community awareness, and caring for companion animals until loving homes can be found. All pets are examined by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Fees for adoption include initial vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchip.

It takes more than sweat, dedication, and love to ensure the well-being of the animals under our care, it takes resources. To that end, the Sedalia Animal Shelter accepts all types of donations - no matter how big or small. Donations may be dropped off at the shelter or made online. We appreciate all donations!

The SAS Volunteer Program is our way of saying "Thank You" to those who plan to volunteer their time. Our dogs, cats, and staff love it when children are able to help! We do ask that an adult accompany each student. We want to make sure every volunteer has the very best experience while helping at the shelter, so please contact the shelter prior to your desired volunteer time.*

Foster Care Program

The Sedalia Animal Shelter does its very best to make sure pets are safe and comfortable while waiting for their forever home. But let's face it, shelter life isn't the same as relaxing in someone's home or exploring the great outdoors.

SAS Woof Release Program

Thank you so much for your interest in the Sedalia Animal Shelter's Woof Release Program. With Woof Release, volunteers may opt to host a dog for a one-day "Day Trip". Or, if you would like more time together, you may host a "Weekend Getaway." Each participating pup will depart with all the supplies needed to make sure his or her adventure is a success.

Animal Shelter Trooper Fund

The Sedalia Animal Shelter started The Trooper Fund in March of 2017 when a border collie mix puppy arrived at the shelter with a broken leg. Unfortunately, the brave little pup needed amputation surgery. The shelter staff named him "Trooper" and began The Trooper Fund. The monies raised through the Trooper Fund allowed the Sedalia Animal Shelter Staff to see Trooper through his surgery and ultimately place him in the home... of a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper!

Through the generosity and support of animal lovers near and far, the Trooper Fund continues to help pets like Trooper overcome traumatic injuries and ultimately find their forever home. To date, The Trooper Fund has helped two other dogs and one cat! For more information or to get involved, view the Trooper Fund page.

*Please note: Court-ordered service hours are not eligible for the SAS Volunteer Recognition Program.
